Software

  • Software to support the digital camcorder (comes with camera

  • Software to convert the video

    • MAY come with the camera or already be installed on your computer
    • MAY be obtained as free downloads or purchased see: http://www.avs4you.com/
  • Software to upload the video to your website. (FTP: File Transfer Protocol)

      • Part of most web page design programs
      • Built into many web browsers

Notes:

Most digital video recorders and cameras come with the software required to transfer your images to a computer where you can create dvd's, develop slide shows, or begin to load your photos or videos online.

These usually provide a mpg/mpeg format for the video. MPEG-2 is the generally used option.

I prefer to convert these to flash (.flv) files because the (.flv) files tend to be much smaller and play universally through free extension to web browsers on every operating system.

After tying several of the free software packages and previewing several of the 'purchase' programs, I found that the least expensive and most comprehensive program is AVS4U. At $59, the package offers a lot of different programs that you may find useful (create DVD's, convert video, etc.)
